Privacy policy

Captuno is run by Zews Agency ("we"). This page explains what we keep about you and your videos, why, and for how long. Questions go to [email protected].
What we keep
- Your email address, to sign you in, to email you when a video is ready and to tie your videos and purchases to you. There are no passwords: you sign in with a link we email you, or with Google, which tells us your email address and nothing else.
- Your videos: the file you upload, the transcript of what's said in it, the caption files, the preview and the finished video.
- Purchases: what you bought, the amount and Stripe's reference for the payment. Card details go straight to Stripe; we never see or store them.
- A session cookie that keeps you signed in. We don't use advertising or analytics cookies, and there are no trackers on the site.
- IP addresses: like most websites, our hosting records requests, including IP addresses, for a short time to keep the service secure and to fix problems. We also count uploads and sign-in emails per IP address, for up to a day, to stop abuse.
How we use it
Only to run Captuno: to make your captioned videos, send you the emails the service needs (sign-in links, "your video is ready"), take payments and answer you when you write to us. We don't sell your data, use it for advertising or use your videos to train AI models.
How long we keep it
- Videos and everything made from them are deleted automatically 7 days after they're processed.
- Your account and email address are kept until you ask us to delete them.
- Payment records are kept for as long as accounting and tax law requires.
Who handles it for us
Speech recognition and rendering run on computers we operate ourselves. We use these services to run everything else:
- Heroku hosts the website and its database.
- Cloudflare runs our domain and network, and stores video files.
- Stripe takes payments.
- Resend sends our emails.
- Google, only if you choose to sign in with Google.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of the data we keep about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and videos. Write to [email protected] from the email address on your account. If you're in the EU or the UK, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update it here and change the date at the top of the page.
